VIDEO QMJHL goalie suspended 9 games for kicking opponent
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League has suspended Chicoutimi Sangueneens goaltender Storm Phaneuf nine games for kicking an opponent with his skate. The incident occured in a Sunday game Ryan McLeod Women Jerseybetween the Sangueneens and the Drummondville Voltigeurs.Here's a look at the play in question:Phaneuf, who is not related to captain , was upset after Drummondville forward Dylan Montcalm fell into the goaltender. The two laid on the ice as play resumed. Perhaps upset Ryan McLeod Men Jerseythat Montcalm was a bit slow to get off of the goaltender, Phaneuf took his left skate and Jussi Jokinen Jerseykicked Montcalm in the chest, which left the forward in some discomfort.Somewhat amazingly, Phaneuf had a shutout going in this game. He received a five-minute major and game misconduct, thus losing the shutout bid.Phaneuf is a first-time offender. He received an automatic one-game suspension for kicking an opponent and eight additional games from the league.Skates are dangerous enough in the course of play, which Ryan Nugent-Hopkins Women Jerseymakes this incident so shocking.
