The Opposition League One Season Preview Part One

[Скопировать ссылку]
Our first look at the other clubs in this division takes us down South as far as Bournemouth and up North as far as Carlisle as we take a look at every club in League One.BournemouthEddie Howe performed miracles in getting Bournemouth promoted from League Two last season. The Cherries achievements were over-looked by many, in higher divisions Roy Hodgeson and Harry Redknapp received much praise, even Dagenham and Redbridges, in League Two with Bournemouth, promotion received more media coverage than Eddie Howes squad but their finish, of second, was every bit as impre sive. Plagued with financial problems The Cherries often struggled to field seven substitutes with many of the places being filled with teenagers. The main objective of the summer for Eddie Howe, who was rumoured with the Fulham job but stayed with Bournemouth, was to add depth to his squad and seven new arrivals will mean that Howe will have a lot more quality in his team to choose from this season. They are unlikely to challenge for promotion but relegation should be avoided. Prediction: 19thIns: Harry Arter (Woking), Stephen Purches (Leyton Orient), Mitchell Nelson (Tooting and Mitcham), Steve Lovell (Patrick Thistle), Michael Symes (Accrington Stanley), Marc Pugh (Hereford), Rhoys Wiggins (Norwich Ricky Watters Jersey  City)Outs: Sammy Igoe (released), Scott Guyett (released), Jeff Goulding (Cheltenham Town), Alan Connell (Grimsby)Bournemouth v Peterborough  Saturday, August 14th 2010Peterborough v Bournemouth  Saturday, April 2nd 2011BrentfordAfter a succe sful season at this level last season, following promotion from League Two, Brentford, under the guidance of Andy Scott, will look to push on again this campaign. Their signings are that of a team that wishes to compete as well with most coming in from an equivalent or a higher level to the one the club plays at and Brentford are given off all the signs of a team that are intending to play their football at a higher level next year. With the talented Andy Scott at the helm they are a team that should be capable of reaching the play-offs and may well be the divisions surprise package. Prediction: 5th Ins: Richard Lee (Watford), Simon Royce (Gillingham), Nicky Forster (Brighton and Hove), Kirk Hudson (Aldershot), Craig Woodman (Wycombe), David McCracken (MK Dons), Michael Spillane (Norwich City), Toumani Diagouraga (Peterborough)Outs: Mark Phillips (Released), Steve Kabba (Barnet), Fraser Franks (Released), Lewis Ferrell (Released), Nicki Bull Colin Kaepernick Jersey  (Wycombe), Ryan Dickson (Southampton), Danny Foster (Wycombe), Ben Strevens (Wycombe), Alan Bennett (Wycombe)Brentford v Peterborough  Saturday, October 23rd 2010Peterborough v Brentford  Saturday, January 8th 2011Brighton and Hove AlbionThe form targeted by many clubs is to win at home, draw away Brightons philosophy appears to be very different. Last season the club would have finished 22nd had home form been taken into account winning just seven games in-front of their own fans however their away form was superb with just five defeats inflicted upon them; the squad had potential but for whatever reason couldnt find the winning formula at the Withdean. If they are able to sort their home form out this campaign they will be a threat. Manager Gus Poyet has certainly been busy in the summer and has turned to foreign leagues, as well as the Dwight Clark Jersey  English divisions, to strengthen his squad. The Seagulls are likely to challenge for the play-offs but just fall short in the end. Prediction: 7thIns: Marcos Painter (Swansea City), Michael Poke (Southampton), Agustin Battipeidi (Communications), Cristian Baz (Communications), Matt Sparrow (Scunthorpe), Ashley Barnes (Plymouth), Gordon Greer (Swindon), Radostin Kishishev (Litex Lovech)Outs: Josh Peeling (released), Andrew Crofts (Norwich), Michael Kuipers (Crawley), Dean Cox (Leyton Orient), Nicky Forster (Brentford), Steve Brinkhurst (Eastbourne Borough), Liam Dickinson (Barnsley), Craig Davies (Chesterfield), James Tunnicliffe (Bristol Rovers)Peterborough v Brighton  Saturday, October 30th 2010Brighton v Peterborough  Saturday, January 15th 2011Bristol RoversA club that seems at home in League One, The Pirates always have talent within their squad and this season is no different. Players like Chris Lines, Jeff Hughes and Staurt Campbell are all experienced at League One level and the addition of Will Hoskins, to replace Rickie Lambert, means Bristol Rovers have a squad which can certainly match most at this level. Rovers squad does seem thin and a busy transfer window, with many coming and going, means that there may be a bedding in period  Frank Gore Jersey before the team reaches its maximum potential. A solid mid-table finish looks most likely. Prediction: 12thIns: Wayne Brown (Fulham), Harry Powell (Hastings), Will Hoskins (Watford), Gary Sawyer (Plymouth), Luke Daniels (West Bromwich Albion), James Tunnicliffe (Brighton)Out: Aaron Lescott (Walsall), Rhys Evans (Southend), Steve Phillips (Crewe Alexandra), Steve Elliot (Released), David Pope (Released), Ben Hunt (Released), Sean Rigg (Port Vale), Joe White (Released), Alex Kite (Released), James Tyrell (Released), Neikell Plummer (Released), Dan Crayford (Released), Steve Kingdon (Released), Rob Holmes (Released), Andy Williams (Yeovil Town)Peterborough v Bristol Rovers  Saturday, 7th August 2010Bristol Rovers v Peterborough  Saturday, March 26th 2011Carlisle UnitedCarlisle United, much like Bristol Rovers, seem happy to be in the division and are very capable at competing at this level. This will be the clubs fifth season in row in League One and, the northern club, look set to stay in the division for another year unle s they really over-perform or clinically under-perform. Carlisles signings are that of a club looking to build though, Jason Price is a good signing as is Frank Simek and added to the quality already at the club in players like Ian Harte and the Cumbrians may well have something to look forward to this season. As stated early a steady season is to be expected but a play-off push isnt completely off the cards. Prediction: 9thIns: Sean McDaid (Doncaster), Craig Curren (Tranmere Rovers), Jason Price (Millwall), Frank Simek (Sheffield Wednesday), James Berrett (Huddersfield Town), Franois Zoko (KV Oostende)Outs: Michael Burns (Released), Emmanuel Richardson  Richard Sherman Jersey (Released), Gavin Rothery (Released), Simon Lakeland (Released), Richard Keogh (Coventry), Evan Horwood (Released), David Raven (Shrewsbury Town), Scott Dobie (St. Johnstone), Lenny Pidgeley (Released), Joe Anyinsah (Released), Tom Alfred (Watford)Carlisle v Peterborough  Saturday, October 2nd 2010Peterborough v Carlisle  Saturday, March 12th 2011
